The Academy Award
winning film, Dirty Dancing is considered to be one
of the greatest dance movies ever made, launching the
careers of Patrick Swayze and Jennifer Grey. All the
excitement and success of this 1987 blockbuster is about
to strike again with Dirty Dancing, The Classic Story
on Stage.
Live on stage for the first time ever, Dirty Dancing,
The Classic Story on Stage, will re-live and revive
Eleanor Bergstein's magnificent coming of age story.
This timeless story is based upon the author's warm
recollections of summer vacations spent in the Catskills
with her parents as a teenager. Interestingly, Ms Bergstein
wrote the script after first choosing the music. This
novel approach clearly worked with the theme of the
songs - "It was the time when your parents' music
was no longer their own and you couldn't separate the
lyrics from what was happening in your heart".
The captivating story takes place at a resort called
Kellerman's, in Catskill, New York in the summer of
1963 and centres around the realtionship between daddy's
girl , Frances "Baby" Houseman, and a talented,
intense and handsome dance instructor, Johnny Castle.
The musical score is packed with both contemporary 80's
and period numbers.
